What happened to Ubuntu?

You may have seen that you could not update your Ubuntu servers and devices (This is fixed now as of May 6 2026) and you may be wondering what happened? This will explain it to you. What happened was a group of hackers got in to the servers and hacked it. (It was a DDOS attack) Soon users where getting 502 (or 501) errors when trying to browse to the website and could not run sudo apt update or sudo apt upgrade. Word got around fast and a lot of videos on YouTube. They were trying real hard to fix this but it did last 6 days (As of May 6, 2026) On May 6, 2026 (today as of writing) they have fixed this and you can now browse to the site and run sudo apt update and sudo apt upgrade. It is good that they have fixed this but it also showcases what can happen to a mainstream linux distros servers.
